Beneath this Christmas Moon

Somewhere beneath this Christmas moon
our daughter sleeps tonight
in orphan’s bed, or mother’s womb,
or heaven’s hid’n delight.
Her fragile heart our Father holds
and fashions in His hand
to bear the wisdom He bestows,
and share it as a friend.

Her name God etched upon my heart
though I know not her face:
a wondrous pang that bids me start
to make her dwelling place.
To join her precious life with ours
will call for greatest faith —
to shun our comforts, bare our scars,
to watch and hope and wait.

Yet sweeter joy God stirs us find
if we would dare this dream:
our thriving hearth a living sign
of how the Lord redeems.
So here I pledge my soul with yours
beneath this Christmas moon
to stay this calling and this course,
to bring home Sonja Ruth.

  1. Simon, you were right when you said He gave you a powerful song. You failed to mention its beauty. Layers of meaning/history/in-check emotions. Your ‘thriving hearth a living sign of how our Lord redeems’ is especially poignant…and on-going. We really have no clue to the immensity of what God can and wants to do, His over-arching grace and tenderness.
    Praise Him!!
    I love you guys.

  2. How beautiful and amazing! Must have been inspired. I am guessing there is/will be music? Will it be on the CD? Rick says, WOW!!!

  3. Simon and Rosemary,

I am so moved by this song and finally had a chance today to read all of the entries thus far and I have been moved to tears. I remember back when you told me about that dream, Rosemary and I had goosebumps then and prayed for you starting that day. To read Simon’s account of God throwing his “bricks” to bring him around to the idea is amazing and I feel the Lord’s presence all over this journey.

Thank you for sharing so openly and I’m honored to be a witness to this journey for Sonja Ruth.

I would like to leave a prayer for you all here as I end this comment.

Lord, You are above all things, all men, all red tape and everything in between. I thank You, Lord, for Simon and Rosemary who are striving to accomplish Your will and fill a dream of adding a daughter and sister to their family. May You shower Simon, Rosemary, and their boys with Your presence that they may all continue to feel You there among them as they face a long road ahead that I’m sure will have its bumps, mountains and valleys, that You would bind them together as a solid unit, standing strong in Your light, that they would not be discouraged when it gets tough, knowing that You will deliver this precious girl to their loving and open arms in Your perfect timing. May Your will be accomplished in their lives and that You would continue to guide them on the right paths that lie ahead. In Your Holy and Precious Name, Amen.

    Love you all!
    Christen
